Qualitative methodology for planners

We recently discovered a novel pathway involving YAP (Yes-associated protein) that activates apoptosis through cell–matrix adhesions. This pathway is typically triggered in normal cells when they are on very soft matrices. Intriguingly, in both cancer and fibrosis, the avoidance of apoptosis is a critical driver of disease progression. This suggests that cancer cells and fibrotic myofibroblasts have developed mechanisms to ignore mechanical signals that would normally induce apoptosis. We are currently investigating the molecular mechanisms underlying this evasion, aiming to better understand disease progression and identify potential therapeutic targets.
